New PLUTO-2, with on-board dual-core processor and memory, plus new SLM panel from HOLOEYE

HOLOEYE has launched a new enhanced electronics driver module for existing and forthcoming Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) panels. The PLUTO-2 features an HDMI interface for addressing phase functions, a USB connection for advanced calibrations, and a trigger sync output for synchronising with external devices – such as colour-switchable lasers. The driver’s faster addressing speed allows for a colour-field-sequential (CFS) mode at 180 Hz input frame rate with the matching new PLUTO-2 SLMs and, as a bonus, also offers a more stable phase response.

The PLUTO-2 driver is equipped with a dual-core processor and on-chip memory, enabling user-programmed (Ubuntu™) additional functionality. For example, a slideshow of images can played back from a USB stick or internal memory without the need for a PC.

HOLOEYE has also added to their newly developed dielectric mirror range of panels. These enable use with higher incident power lasers due to the SLM’s coating, which reduces absorption. The models currently available are:

  • PLUTO-UV-043: 350 to 420 nm with 90% reflectivity and >2.3π; phase retardation up to 405 nm
  • PLUTO-VIS-056: 450 to 650 nm with 93% reflectivity and 2.5π phase retardation at 530 nm, 2.1 at 633 nm
  • PLUTO-NIR-049: 1000 to 1100 nm with 93% reflectivity and 2π phase retardation up to 1064 nm

We are in Edinburgh next week for IUPAB / EBSA

The joint 19th International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB) and 11th European Biophysical Societies’ Association (EBSA) Congress takes place in Edinburgh next week.

From Sunday, July 16th to Thursday the 20th., the British Biophysical Society and the Biological Physics Group of the Institute of Physics (IOP) will host an outstanding scientific programme for this major international combined biophysics event. All areas of contemporary biophysics will be included in a varied programme covering single molecule studies to complex machineries.

Elliot Scientific will be demonstrating a complete system from our Optical Tweezers range that features tracking and force measurement on exhibition days: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. You can also ask us about nanopositioning equipment for the microscope from Mad City Labs, as well as LED light sources and instruments designed for microscopy and optogenetics studies from Prizmatix, the LDLS – a novel super bright broadband lamp from Energetiq Technologies, and Spatial Light Modulators from HOLOEYE.

Three new PLUTO SLMs get dielectric mirror coating for increased power handling

LCOS_HeadHOLOEYE now offers new dielectric mirror coated versions of their popular PLUTO phase only Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs). Based on reflective LCOS microdisplays delivering 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution with an 8 µm pixel pitch, the latest models in the PLUTO range enable use with higher incident power lasers due to the coating’s reduction of absorption.

Three models are currently available: the PLUTO-UV-043, PLUTO-VIS-056 and PLUTO-NIR-049 for use in the UV, visible and IR respectively. All PLUTO SLMs are plug & play, offer fast full digital addressing, and can be programmed with phase functions via a standard graphics card as an extended monitor device using the supplied software.

10 megapixel SLM delivers 4k of super-resolution: New Ultra HD device from HOLOEYE

HOLOEYE Photonics has just released a 4094 x 2464 pixel resolution Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) with the introduction of the GAEA range.

Available in three models: TELCO (IR), NIR and VIS(ible), they will consist of a driver unit with HDMI digital video interface and a phase only LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) standard microdisplay 10 megapixel (4K) panel with a 0.7″ active area as measured diagonally. The very small 3.74 µm pixel pitch will enable high diffraction angles.

In addition, HOLOEYE’s PLUTO range of 1920 x 1080 pixel panels have recently been expanded with 8 models optimised for wavelength bands in the visible, infrared, or both.

HOLOEYE Spatial Light Modulator Range Revamped – New models introduced

This month has seen the introduction of several new Spatial Light Modulators from HOLOEYE. The latest developments include:

New HDTV Resolution High Retardance Panels
Two new phase only panels, the PLUTO-VIS-HR and PLUTO-BB-HR, show a considerably higher phase retardation compared to standard panels. This enables mod 4π or even mod 6π phase functions to be addressed which can be beneficial for wave front functions due to higher slopes and reduced transition points in the addressed function compared to mod 2 Pi encoding.

New LETO Phase Only Reflective SLM
The LETO is based on a full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel) LCOS microdisplay with a pixel pitch of only 6.4 µm and a small interpixel gap of 0.2 µm. The SLM provides a high fill factor of 93% with a corresponding high light efficiency, and is usable in the 400-1100 nm range with a phase shift of 2π up to 850 nm. With a reflectivity of ~ 75% and a low cross talk between pixels, the device offers diffraction efficiencies of more than 80% (16 level blazed grating) which leads to a total light efficiency of approximately 60%.

New LC 2012 Transmissive SLM
The LC 2012 is based on a transmissive liquid crystal microdisplay with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. It is addressed using a standard HDMI interface and advanced calibration can be performed via USB. The SLM provides a phase shift of 2π at 532 nm and around 1π at 800 nm. The microdisplay and drive electronics are packaged into a compact box for easy integration into optical setups via a mounting ring which fits standard laboratory posts and holders.
