Tomorrow, the Photonex Roadshow returns to Scotland

The Photonex Roadshow returns to Glasgow tomorrow, bringing together the UK’s top photonics technology suppliers, leading researchers and invited speakers for a very special one-day event on June 14th at the University of Strathclyde.

Elliot Scientific will be among the dozens of companies dedicated to optics, biophotonics and imaging technology – allowing you to view the latest photonics solutions, optical components, instruments and systems, as well as a conference and tutorials.

Photonics is an enabling technology, so you can only really find out how a company can help you in your work by face-to-face contact. Elliot Scientific’s Solution Science is more than just a slogan, it’s our approach to providing the tools and equipment you need to get the results you want.

We will be demonstrating our ranges of precision slides and flexure stages, the ultra-bright laser-driven plasma light source from Energetiq, nanopositioners from Mad City Labs, and much more. Come and talk to us about your project.

For one day only this week: The Photonex Roadshow Scotland

Heriot Watt University is the venue for Photonex ScotlandTomorrow, Wednesday, the Photonex Roadshow returns to Edinburgh and the city’s Heriot-Watt University for a special one-day event. June 8th will see the UK’s top photonics technology suppliers, leading researchers and invited speakers gathered together for the second time this year.

Elliot Scientific will be on table S1, among the dozens of companies dedicated to optics, photonics and imaging technology, thus allowing you to view the latest in our photonics solutions, optical components, instruments and systems.

Photonics is an enabling technology, so you can only really find out how a company can help you in your work by face-to-face contact. Mad City Labs introduce new low profile 3-axis nanopositioner

Ideal for applications in optical trapping, microscopy, fluorescence imaging, single molecule spectroscopy and super resolution microscopy (SRM), the new Nano-LPMW from Mad City Labs is a unique 3-axis nanopositioning system designed to hold multiwell plates, slides, dishes and environmental chambers.

MCL-LPMWThe Nano-LPMW has a low profile and extra-large centre aperture with 200 micron range of motion in all three axes. The low height of the Nano- LPMW Series allows it to be easily integrated into existing inverted optical microscopes and is compatible with a large range of microscope stages.

Like the related Nano-LPS Series, the Nano-LPMW is ideal for demanding microscopy applications which require long range travel, high stability, and three axes of motion.

The Nano-LPMW is the only 3-axis nanopositioning system which can hold multiwell plates and incubators, and deliver precise and repeatable motion. A function made possible through closed loop control combined with PicoQ® position sensors.

The Photonex Roadshow rolls into Glasgow tomorrow, bringing together the UK’s top photonics technology suppliers, leading researchers and invited speakers for a very special one-day event on June 3rd at the University of Strathclyde.

Elliot Scientific will be among the 32 companies dedicated to optics, biophotonics and imaging technology – allowing you to view the latest photonics solutions, optical components, instruments and systems, as well as a conference and tutorials.

Photonics is an enabling technology, so you can only really find out how a company can help you in your work by face-to-face contact. Elliot Scientific’s Solution Science is more than just a slogan, it’s our approach to providing the tools and equipment you need to get the results you want.

We will be demonstrating ultra high-power LED light delivery systems from Prizmatix, ultra-bright laser-driven plasma light sources from Energetiq, nanopositioners from Mad City Labs, and our own ranges of precision slides and flexure stages. Come and talk to us about your project.

Next week: Optical Trapping and Optical Micromanipulation XI in San Diego

Next week, SPIE Optics + Photonics in San Diego will be hosting a conference stream entitled Optical Trapping and Optical Micromanipulation XI  that runs from Sunday August 17th until the 21st.

There will be twenty sessions in total, chaired by two of the leading researchers in the field and both champions of  Optical Tweezers: Kishan Dholakia of the University of St. Andrews, and Gabriel C. Spalding from the Illinois Wesleyan University. Topics covered will include:

  • Toward (Or In) the Quantum Limit of Opto-Mechanics
  • Beam Shaping and Aberration/Wavefront Correction
  • Helicity and Optical Angular Momentum
  • Optically Driven Microrheology and Mechanical Properties
  • Using the Photonic Toolbox to Study Cells and Their Organelles
  • Enhanced Sensitivity and Resolution of Optical Force Actuators
  • Single-Molecule Manipulation and Study
  • Photonic Devices for Optically Induced Forces
  • Near-Field Micromanipulation, Plasmonic, and Nanoparticle Trapping
  • Studies of Active Swimmers/Hydrodynamics
  • Statistical Mechanics of Small Systems
  • Optical Manipulation of Matter through Gaseous Media
  • Optical Sorting, Optical Lab-on-a-Chip, and Microfluidics
  • Optically Bound Matter
  • Optofluidics and Optically Shaped Structures
  • Optically Manipulated Robotics and Novel Samples

Although Elliot Scientific will not be exhibiting at this event, we would still like to wish all conference attendees a good week.

Application Note Series complements Elliot Scientific Optical Tweezers range

A number of experiments were recently commissioned by Elliot Scientific to test and demonstrate the capabilities of our standard E3500 Optical Tweezers system. These were undertaken by a team at St. Andrews University and are available as a series of Application Notes with accompanying videos.

There are four papers that look at:

  1. Trap Stiffness
  2. Trapping & Manipulation
  3. Cell Stretching
  4. Photoporation & Transfection

All can be read online at Issuu or downloaded from our website. The videos can also be viewed or downloaded here, or seen via our YouTube channel.

Royal Microscopical Society and SPIE elect Elliot Scientific as Corporate Member

Corporate Membership Certificates for the SPIE and RMSTo complement our work in the field of optical tweezing,  Elliot Scientific recently approached the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS).  We are now pleased to announce that we have been duly elected a Corporate Member of the Society and look forward to working with them at the forefront of new ideas and developments in microscopy and imaging.

In addition, our Corporate Membership of SPIE – the Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers – continues, with our re-election earlier this year. Elliot Scientific supports the  Society’s aim for the advancement of an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light.
