8600 VSM from Lake Shore Cryotronics is their best ever

The new production 8600 Series VSMs from Lake Shore Cryotronics [ @LakeShoreCryo ] further raise the bar for magnetometer performance and convenience by combining even higher sensitivity, and a doubled magnetic field ramp rate.

The entire 8600 Series system was re-imagined, focusing on a clean ergonomic design that would simplify a researcher’s interaction with the system. For example, a motorised head brings the sample to a comfortable height for easy, one-handed exchange of the sample rods.

Temperature options include a cryostat, high-temperature oven, and single stage variable temperature insert. The combined temperature range of the options is 4.2 to 1273 K, and all three options quickly slide into place and are auto-detected by the system’s software – video demonstration.

8600 Series Improved Features

  • 0.33 0.25 × 10-7 emu noise floor at 10 s/pt
  • 10 ms/pt data acquisition rate
  • 5,000 10,000 Oe/s field ramp rate
  • Rapid, repeatable temperature option exchange
  • High stability—±0.05% per day
  • Fields to 3.26 T
  • Widest available temperature range—4.2 K to 1273 K

The magnet poles are also easily adjusted with a specially designed indexed positioning system that allows the pole gap to be set at one of six repeatable positions, eliminating the need to recalibrate after each change.

New precision source for current or voltage from Lake Shore

Lake Shore have announced the new Model 155 MeasureReady™ precision I/V source. Ideal for demanding scientific applications requiring a precise low-noise supply of current or voltage, for example electronic material characterisation, the Model 155 will be shipping later this year.

Supplying 1 W maximum from DC to 100 kHz over a broad output range, these power supplies deliver a solid foundation for I/V curve, Hall effect, and other fundamental measurements.

The clutter-free touch display with a unique TiltView™ screen presents a natural and engaging user interface. No confusing buttons or long learning curves make the Model 155 as easy to use as a smartphone. With similar connectivity – Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, plus LAN – it offers convenient remote operation via LabVIEW™, a custom PC interface, or mobile app.

New THz-frequency contact probing for cryogenic applications from Lake Shore

Lake Shore have released details of their new THz-frequency contact probes. Compatible with Lake Shore’s CPX, CPX-VF, CRX-4K, and CRX-VF cryogenic probe station systems, the THz arm offers:

  • Precise on-wafer contact THz probing of millimetre wave devicesTHzProbeArm_4
  • New measurement possibilities for next-generation electronics
  • THz probes can be combined with standard DC/RF/microwave probe arms
  • Features a low-loss THz waveguide
  • Supports vector network analysers (VNAs) with suitable frequency extenders
  • Enables calibrated S-parameter and other hf electrical measurements at cryogenic temperatures and in magnetic fields

Signal deterioration at frequencies above 75 GHz has limited high-frequency contact measurement of electronic devices at room temperature, let alone cryogenic ones. Now Lake Shore’s breakthrough technology of a specially developed low-loss THz-frequency waveguide delivers excellent signal integrity over longer distances, at lower temperatures, and with superior arm mobility. All without interefering with the other probes in the system.

Custom Lake Shore CRX Probe Station with CRAIC Spectrophotometer installed at Southampton

Southampton Custom CRX

Elliot Scientific recently installed a unique integration of Lake Shore CRX micro-manipulated probe station, CRAIC Technologies InGaS Spectrophotometer, and Zeiss microscope at the University of Southampton’s Centre for Photonic Metamaterials.

Combining our knowledge of both CRAIC and Lake Shore products, we offset mounted a Zeiss microscope carrying the CRAIC Spectrophotometer onto the probe station.

The microscope was supported in a custom manufactured rig to provide smooth movement in three axes above the sample chamber, enabling the researchers to closely observe the optical properties of nanostructured materials at cryogenic temperatures through a broadband objective lens of special design.
